Windsurfing in Kadikalesi by Mark Hellawell
Woke up today with the wind whistling around our house on the hill overlooking the Kadikalesi Bay. The wind was forecast to drop so Joe, Paul and I decided to get on the water as soon as possible; we rushed out of bed, skipped breakfast, jumped into the car and headed for the beach.
We took the sails we had been using the past couple of days but the wind rather than dropping just got stronger and stronger until all 3 of us were struggling to hold on. We came in and re-rigged to much smaller kit, Paul grabbed the camera and we went out for another go. There's nothing like a camera to inspire a bit of showing off so the next half hour we were just blasting back at Paul, playing chicken with the pontoon trying to go as close as possible until our lack of energy forced us into submission.... should have had some breakfast.
It was great to see the true potential of the place as a real wind machine, we've been on the water every day having fun but the direction hasn't been what this place normally gets and this morning showed what is possible when it does swing back to the north and really fires!
